I am so glad I bought this 309a at costco, so I can return it easily.
Pros: It prints such beautiful photos.
Cons: 1. After wasting several hours this weekend messing with installation, I still can't get the scanning function of the printer to interface with any one of my computers.
2. Printer doesn't get automatically recognized on the network, so I have to enter the IP address manually and struggle to get through installation.
3. Wireless connection of printer intermittently gets lost by either computer on network, so has to be reinstalled.
These problems occured using XP operating system. Unless the software is dramatically improved, buyer beware.

I'm looking at the HP CC335A and most of the reviews are for the HP 309A...What's the scoop? They are two different machines. Please, can somebody explain why??? I gave it one star only so I could get this on line. I don't own one yet, but the CC335A is highly recommended by Cnet.
INK Usage - printer review February 3, 2010

I have had this printer for six months and after 211 page of normal text no photos; I just had to replace all the ink cartridges for third time (Photo Black, Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow) about $ 75.00. Up to this point have paid for a new printer and more for the ink - I am going back to my old EPSON Photo R300 which is more economical to operate and offers best print quality.
Note that I called HP help and got an operator in East Asia, very polite and nice to speak with, however told me try the printer with your new ink, if you have any issue then give us a call back! (No answer as why this machine spend so much ink) I called back an talk to another person and insisted to speak with a supervisor - I did and she told me a case manager will call to discuss my problems with this printer - I am still waiting for the call!
Recommendation: DO NOT PURCHASE this printer - older HP photo smart performed way better. These newer models are a trap to get you spends money on very expensive INK.

I bought this printer because it combined several functions necessary for my home business. The features would be great, if I could get the printer to work for more than one day at a time.
It initially took me three days on the phone with HP Tech Support just to get the software installed (on a new HP desktop running Vista). I'm not exaggerating - it was technician #8 who finally got it running.
Then the machine decided it would only scan duplex, through the feeder. Another hour with tech support, and I learned the reset process. (Unplug power; hold down keys # and 3; while holding keys down, reinsert power plug. It helps to have long arms or an assistant!)
Resetting it worked fine the first time. But the next time I turned my computer off, the printer decided it was disconnected. And needed a reset. Only now, it insists on initializing after the reset, using up the expensive colored ink. And it disconnects EVERY SINGLE TIME I TURN MY COMPUTER OFF.
In any case, I can tell the machine won't last long. It sounds like it's tearing itself apart with every function.
I hope I haven't waited too long to return it to Amazon. Things seemed just encouraging enough to keep me trying, but new problems arise constantly. I have so much work I need to do, and this piece of junk has wasted so much of my time!
